Girls under 6 years are encouraged to join our Tee Ball Baseball division. Note that softball's league age is considered to be the age the player attained in the previous calendar year (age on Jan 1, 2024).
At all levels, it is the goal of Sandpoint Little League to provide a safe, fun and enjoyable environment for our children to play and learn the game of softball. With that being our overriding priority, following are the divisions of Fastpitch Softball supported by our Little League organization:
Tee Ball
Girls of softball league age 4-6 who would like to join a team are encouraged to play Tee Ball. Read more
Rookies Softball
Rookies Softball plays in the Single A Baseball division, and is designed for players league age 6-7, or who turn 8 after Jan 1. At this level, coaches will pitch to their own players. If the batter does not get a hit in five pitches, the batter will hit off a batting tee. Coaches are required to rotate players through defensive positions. Coaches begin focusing on defensive fundamentals as this division recognizes a three-out inning. No umpires and no score keeping with exception of a five-run rule per inning. Minors Softball
Minors Softball is an instructional division for league ages 8-10 with an emphasis on fundamentals and enhancing each player’s abilities. Coaches focus on the reinforcement of fundamentals including catching, proper throwing motion, base running, and developing proper swing mechanics. Through practice and play, players learn rules and strategies of the game. Players also have an opportunity to learn basic pitching skills at this level, and while pitching may be a combination of kid- and coach- pitch at the beginning of the year, by the end of our season it will be up to the girls to strike each other out! Majors Softball
Majors Softball is designed for girls league age 10-12. As with baseball, this is the age at which we start playing competitively. That said, Majors is still considered an instructional league with an emphasis on fundamentals and enhancing each player’s abilities in a competitive environment. Kids pitch at this level with inning counts strictly adhered to. One home plate umpire is used at this level. Read more
